Our client
The University of Luxembourg, particularly its Engineering Department on the Kirchberg campus, offers a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and develops projects at the intersection of teaching and applied research. The campus features advanced facilities, including additive manufacturing and technical polymer labs, allowing students and researchers to turn concepts into concrete solutions in collaboration with industry.

Their need
For microbiology research, the team needed to design and manufacture biological plates for bacterial growth in the laboratory.
These experimental supports had to meet strict requirements:
- Dimensional stability
- Mechanical strength
- Reliable performance in biological environments
- Compliance with skin-contact standards
The goal was to produce plates perfectly suited to experimental protocols while ensuring repeatability, precision, and material safety.
Our solution
With our Medical-Grade ABS filament, the University of Luxembourg was able to design and 3D-print robust biological plates perfectly adapted to the demands of life sciences research.
Using FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication) 3D printing enabled:
- Fully customized geometries
- Excellent repeatability of parts
- Controlled dimensional stability
- Fast and cost-effective production
“Its certified biocompatibility and reliability gave me the confidence to print parts that not only needed mechanical strength and dimensional stability, but also compliance with strict standards.”
Claude Wolf, Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering
Using ABS certified for skin contact ensured the reliability and compliance of the supports used in both experimental and teaching protocols.
Our filament
Our Medical ABS filament is a high-quality Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) polymer. This amorphous thermoplastic, ivory in color, offers:
- Rigidity and durability
- Impact resistance
- Dimensional stability
- Thermal resistance
- Low warping
It is produced from pellets compliant with ISO 10993-5 certification for skin contact.
